Fritz Geers: Ultra athlete and mountainbike guide

Fritz Geers (* 1995 in Clausthal-Zellerfeld) is a german extreme sports athlete and mountain bike guide from the north german Harz mountains. Fritz Geers has been participating in cycling races since he was 14 years old, and since 2013 in ultra- and extreme cycling races. By winning the Race across Europe 2018 he became WUCA Ultracycling European Champion.

Career

Fritz Geers grew up in the mountain and university town of Clausthal-Zellerfeld and lives there to this day. At the age of 12, he ran a marathon for the first time in a charity run, where he increased his performance over three other participations. As a 15-year-old, he ran 140 kilometers in under 36 hours. For several years he collects podium places in mountain bike marathon races all over Europe in his youth. In 2013, at the age of 17, he took part in an ultracycling race in Norway for the first time and won the "Styrkeprøven" in the junior category. In addition to graduating from high school, a year later he started a crowdfunding project to finance another participation in the Norwegian "trial of strength". He finished the 542-kilometer race again in first place in his category and as best German thanks to funding from 42 supporters of the project.

"Sometimes you have to set the sails differently when the wind turns"

Since 2015, Fritz has focused exclusively on the cycling discipline of ultracycling. Accompanied by a lot of loneliness, he devotes most of his life to ultra cycling with all his passion and always pushes body and mind to the limits of what is possible. What many do not see is that he is supported in the race by a constantly growing support team. He often spent months programming websites and finding consideration for sponsors to finance participation in ultra-cycling races around the world. At the age of 20, he set a record as the youngest finisher at the Race across the Alps and became the youngest German champion in 24h solo mountain biking. At the age of 21 he set a track record in the 3,250 kilometer Race around Germany . In 2018 he was the winner of the 4,711-kilometer Race across Europe with a track record and was honored as "European Champion" by the Ultracycling World Association UMCA.

"Happiness is not about achieving your goals, but about being on the way."

After an apprenticeship to become a technical product designer, he has been founding several own companies since January 2019 and works as a mountainbike guide in the Harz region. Fritz is very reluctant to talk about his next step. One thing is certain, however: in life, failure and success are often close together. In this story, too, there were major sporting defeats as well as financial and personal crises in addition to great successes. Nevertheless, the young athlete repeatedly makes it clear that it is important to keep going and never to give up on yourself.

After an apprenticeship as a technical product designer, Fritz developed healthy cereals for athletes in 2019 and works as a mountainbike guide in the Harz region. He is bringing the cereals onto the market under the brand name Mueslay® 2020 as the first plastic-free packaged cereals in germany. Fritz is very reluctant to talk about his next sporting goals. Nevertheless, the young athlete repeatedly makes it clear that it is important to keep going and never to give up on yourself.
